Marion Cotillard wins best actress Oscar

Marion Cotillard has won the Academy Award for best actress in a leading role for her performance in 'Mome, La'. She played legendary French singer Edith Piaf, who rose to international fame from her beginnings on the streets of Paris.

After winning the award, an excited Cotillard thanked director Olivier Dahan, saying: 'Maestro Olivier Dahan, you rocked my life. You truly rocked my life.'

This was the first Oscar nomination for Cotillard.

Tilda Swinton walked away with the award for best performance by an actress in a supporting role for 'Michael Clayton' and Javier Bardem won the award for best performance by an actor in a supporting role for 'No Country for Old Men'.

Best writing, screenplay based on material previously produced or published went to Joel Coen, Ethan Coen for 'No Country for Old Men'.
