Above the fold is the area of the page that can be seen without scrolling down, so the top part of the page that you see first. The reason for this is that not everyone scrolls down many people will leave the site without scrolling so for your ads to have maximum exposure you want them where they will be seen straight away.

Color of Ads

By using the traditional white background, black text and blue link your ads will look like ads (unless this is the general color scheme of your site). It is best to select the colors for your ads to match the colors of your websites. Have the background the same color as your website page background and have the border the same color also. This way the border won't appear and the ads will blend in better. It is debateable whether to use the blue link or have a link color the same as the link color that is on your site. Many people swear by the blue link and many prefer the same color as their site so that is something you can play around with and see what works better for you.
